In recent years, gastronomy has established itself as an art form, in which the act of eating becomes an ephemeral work that combines flavour and aesthetics with a performative (ritual), contextual and social dimension. It differs from other arts in one intimate and unrepeatable aspect: the experience of ingestion and of taste felt in one’s own body.
This is the context of the project Comer com os Olhos (Eating with the Eyes). Over three artist residencies in the summer of 2025, visual artists and gastronomes met and a new creative language emerged. This language turned “scarcity”, the central theme of this first edition, into unexpected abundance. Lack of resources became a profusion of creativity, and the absence of set formulas allowed new ways of making, thinking and sharing to be invented.
As Ferran Adrià said, “cooking is an act of love, an act of giving”, and that generosity guided every experience, showing that both art and gastronomy are only complete with the participation of others.
