Writing residency

The Córtex Frontal Writing Residency is based in the quiet, historic town of Arraiolos, in the heart of the Alentejo. Since 2016, it has provided writers, researchers, journalists, curators, and PhD candidates with dedicated time and space to focus, reflect, and create.

The program also offers opportunities to connect and learn. In addition to independent work, residents are invited to join a diverse schedule of activities, including artist talks, field trips, and encounters with local traditions. These experiences encourage writers to explore the Alentejo region and engage with a community of multidisciplinary artists from Portugal and beyond.

Please note that our team has a background in the visual arts. We follow each project during the residency, but we are not able to offer professional literary mentoring.
